a new complication

My weight has gone up by seven pounds in the last ten days, all due to excess water in the legs and chest. Water retension has been a problem since my heart attack eleven years ago, but now we're investigating to see whether chemotherapy has exacerbated it. I plan to have an echocardiogram on Wednesday and to go over the results with my cardiologist on Friday. If I have more information after that, I'll post it.

Gad, Scott.

Sorry to hear about the heart attack. Do you have any idea of what would have caused it? On the bright side, my dad had a heart attack at the age of 34 and is doing fine now...thanks to beta blockers and blood thinners that he takes on time.

Your friend,
Bruce Ramsey

Well, I knew that you were going to check with your cardiologist, I just did not understand about the excess water. Well, that is not true. Of course I knew of the water retention, have known for the past ten years. We have just sort of learned to accept whatever is present and move on. It just part of your on-going health experience. One of those "And, otherwise, Mrs Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play" moments. I must confess that having seen your legs at Christmas time, and then hearing of your hands swelling so badly the following week, it took on a fearome quality. At that time, there was also some pretty awful pain involved. Is that part of the current condition too? When we last spoke, you were pretty joyful about the fact that you had your hands back and your feet "hurt only a little." You amaze me, my dear. You know how much I hate that you have to go through all of this. I just want you OK.
How is the Thursday teaching going? Are you able to stay with that, or is this current situation too incapacitating? Love you, Mom

Well, what a relief talking with you last evening. I am both pleased and astonished that you are able to be so mobile. I think the same compliment that Mother received while traveling in Europe with her crutches applies to you. "You are just abominable!" (Oh, was that indomitable?) How blessed we are that we can still laugh in the middle of this storm. Love you, Mom
Nick, how neat to see your entry. Love you too, Grandma
